Key Takeaways

  • Connecting TSIM to Axway Amplify Fusion is a practical path to lower operational costs and smarter EDI management.
  • Axway Amplify Fusion transforms TSIM into an AI-ready platform by bridging legacy EDI infrastructure with modern integration and governance capabilities.
  • Two use cases show how: first, exposing TSIM functions through secure APIs, second, connecting AI platforms to automate management tasks.
  • Amplify Fusion’s 200-plus enterprise connectors and built-in AI governance position TSIM customers for broader automation and EU AI Act readiness.

Many organizations have relied on TradeSync Integration Manager (TSIM) for their critical EDI processes for years, and that is not in question. The challenge all TSIM customers are facing right now is: how to ensure that the total cost of owning and operating TSIM (TCO) is reduced. Automation, often involving the use of AI, is the key to success. This article describes how TSIM can be opened so that AI and other systems can be connected to it, thereby enabling the day-to-day management of TSIM to be carried out more automatically.

How can TSIM be made AI-enabled?

TSIM was developed a long time ago, at a time when systems were not designed for data exchange with other systems, let alone with AI systems. To connect TSIM to all other (modern) systems, three steps are required:

  1. Opening up TSIM and transforming the data: first, TSIM must be opened via one of the supported interfaces, after which the data must be transformed from TSIM’s specific, bespoke data model into an open standard (API, i.e. REST/JSON)
  2. Once APIs have been created for TSIM, it is important to secure them. On the one hand, to protect the data. On the other, to protect TSIM from an overload of messages
  3. Once secure APIs are available, they can be connected to other systems, preferably using standard connectors to systems and AI platforms

Axway Amplify Fusion is Axway’s full multi-pattern integration platform, which is perfectly capable of supporting these 3 steps. Before going into detail about these steps, the following chapter will first briefly outline exactly what Axway Amplify Fusion is.

What is Amplify Fusion?

Amplify Fusion is Axway’s multi-pattern integration platform that connects applications, APIs, data, AI models, and business processes. The platform combines API management, integration, orchestration, process automation, and AI governance within a single environment.

With Amplify Fusion, organizations can:

  • Design and manage APIs
  • Connect applications and data sources
  • Build integration and orchestration flows
  • Use AI models securely
  • Automate system-to-system processes using low-code tooling
  • Utilize over 200 standard connectors

In short, Amplify Fusion acts as the connecting layer between TSIM, business applications, and modern AI solutions.

Use Case 1: APIs for TSIM, built on Amplify Fusion

One of the most tangible benefits of Amplify Fusion is making TSIM functionality available via modern product APIs.

Today, many management activities still require specialist knowledge of TSIM and the UIs that are delivered with TSIM. With Amplify Fusion, standardized product APIs can be provided for these purposes, such as:

  • Retrieving messages and transactions
  • Replacing certificates
  • Retrieving configuration information
  • Automatically creating or modifying partners
  • Performing maintenance tasks

These APIs can be built using officially supported interfaces for TSIM. This makes the functionality accessible to other applications, workflows, and AI solutions without the need for direct access to the TSIM platform through a UI.

In addition to Fusion, Axway can provide templates and integration assets that help simplify connectivity to TSIM. These assets may include standard mappings to transform TSIM-specific data formats into open standards such as REST/JSON APIs. When used as part of an implementation project, they can help accelerate deployment and reduce integration effort compared to building everything from scratch.

Use Case 2: AI for TSIM

While APIs form the technical foundation, AI delivers a completely new user experience. Once TSIM’s product APIs have been created in Axway Amplify Fusion, Fusion can then be used to integrate with common AI platforms, utilizing more than 12 standard AI connectors in Amplify Fusion for all major AI platform providers (OpenAI, Gemini, Copilot, Mistral, etc.).

Deploying an AI platform opens entirely new possibilities for TSIM, including:

1) AI-driven monitoring

A user can simply ask:

“What is the status of order 376234?”

The AI uses MCP tools to retrieve data from TSIM, ERP systems, and other sources, and then presents a comprehensive answer in natural language. This ensures that business staff and, potentially, even business partners can ask these kinds of questions directly to TSIM and other systems via a chatbot, rather than having to go through a TSIM administrator. This therefore results in an immediate reduction in TSIM’s TCO.

2) Replacing certificates

A very important task is the (very regular) replacement of business partners’ certificates. Business partners supply the new certificates by email; a TSIM administrator must then import the certificates into TSIM and test that everything is working. If a simple agent is built within the AI Platform to parse the email, the agent can extract the certificate from the email and upload it to TSIM fully automatically. This saves TSIM administrators a great deal of work, particularly when new regulations come into force requiring certificates to be replaced much more frequently (every 3 months?).

3) AI-driven partner onboarding

Instead of manually configuring new trading partners, a user (an employee from the business or from a partner) can simply ask:

“Create a new supplier, FastParts.”

The employee can then either share a document containing the partner’s details with the chatbot, or the chatbot will ask which details are required to create the partner in question. Once all the details have been provided, the chatbot ensures that the partner is created and, finally, the chatbot can share details to carry out a test with the new partner.

This AI-driven approach means that TSIM administrators no longer need to spend time onboarding, updating or removing partners. The business and its business partners can do this entirely independently.

4) AI-supported mapping

Mapping has traditionally been one of the most time-consuming aspects of EDI projects. With Axway Amplify Fusion, AI models can assist in generating, adapting, and documenting mappings between standards such as EDIFACT and SAP IDoc. As Axway’s mapping technologies are based on open formats such as XSLT, DML, and DataMapper, these can be interpreted and optimized by AI without vendor lock-in. In practice, this means a significant part of the work of a mapping can be generated by AI, leaving a TSIM administrator with only a limited amount of time required to finalize the mapping.

What’s next? The EU AI Act & connectors

If TSIM and Axway Amplify Fusion are connected to create product APIs for TSIM and to link AI platforms, Fusion can, of course, be deployed more widely within organizations.

Firstly, Amplify Fusion includes more than 200 connectors for every widely used application and technology (such as SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow and Office365). These connectors can be used to connect TSIM to all kinds of other applications. This allows even more processes to be automated, thereby reducing the costs of running TSIM even further than with AI alone.

Finally, Amplify Fusion offers a wide range of options for complying with the EU AI Act. The core of this legislation concerns the safe and controlled use of AI, and Amplify Fusion can play a key role in this, alongside the AI Platform itself. Aspects such as guardrails, a complete audit trail, and the security of personal data (PII) are areas where Amplify Fusion can make a significant contribution.

Summary: the path to an AI-driven TSIM platform

For organizations wishing to continue to make the most of TSIM, Amplify Fusion offers a logical next step. The platform adds APIs, AI, governance, and modern integration capabilities.

Ultimately, the greatest value lies in automating management, simplifying partner onboarding, accelerating integration projects, and enabling AI-driven business processes. This not only accelerates innovation but also significantly reduces the platform’s operational costs.

In other words: the business value of Amplify Fusion lies not only in new technology, but above all in making existing TSIM environments smarter, more efficient, and more future-proof.
