The year’s end is often a season of reflection, and we wanted to take the opportunity to briefly look back at the year we’ve shared with our customers, partners, and all of you.
From driving the evolution of open banking, to streamlining how finance departments do their work, to launching a new kind of API marketplace to drive API adoption, here are a few — non exhaustive! — highlights of Axway’s year.
Changing the API story from tech to business
As CEO Patrick Donovan said last month, Axway doesn’t just have a vision for driving API consumption: we can execute on it.
“Last year, I said the real challenge in API management is being able to draw the greatest value from every API in ways that will drive business. It wasn’t just talk: we’ve been hard at work refining the answer to the dilemma of API consumption.
In the spring, Axway released a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on closing the gap between API development and API consumption. It found that 86 percent of business and IT leaders agreed the value of APIs is in their consumption, and not in their existence alone.
Yet, in that same survey, 71% of API decision-makers said they didn’t experience the business results they had planned for from their APIs. Some essential conclusions:
- Low API adoption is largely due to a lack of insightful data on API usage and performance.
- A business-led approach to API strategy that focuses on API consumption is critical to success in achieving high-level business goals.
- API management technology combined with business and digital expertise from a vendor is valuable to developing more consumable APIs and closing the gap².
Axway launched Amplify Enterprise Marketplace in October, as a response to these growingly complex enterprise needs.
“Driving API consumption often comes down to how visible and, ultimately, consumable your APIs are,” adds Donovan. “And that’s why we believe our brand-new Amplify Enterprise Marketplace is the answer.”
Axway customers are already in production with their own API marketplaces, which is built on our universal API management Amplify Platform and designed to execute on API consumption.
Beyond the supporting technology, these developments all point to the importance of treating APIs as products, as opposed to technical interfaces. Expect to hear much more in 2023 about how to make the mental — and organizational — shift from tech-driven to a business-led approach.
Industry recognition and proud moments
We are proud to share that Axway is a Leader in the 2022 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Full Life Cycle API Management¹ — for the seventh time!
2022 was also the year where we continued to develop our vision of “Open Everything,” challenging organizations everywhere to securely unlock the full value of their existing IT infrastructure and transform their business using an open API management platform that expands API consumption.
This was followed up by the 2022 Open Everything Strategy Survey: we asked nearly 1,000 IT leaders, architects, and developers about their top concerns – and how they’re addressing them — as they eye their digital future. Findings address everything from healthcare and open banking to API and MFT security or opinions about the Metaverse.
Almost 1/2 of respondents rank security as their highest concern regarding API growth, followed by API complexity.
It was also an honor for Axway to be positioned as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: API Management Solutions, Q3 2022². Read why we feel this positioning is validation of our open platform vision and our focus on helping businesses extend their APIs further with the right strategy.
Another highlight was receiving the Editor’s Choice award for the “Customer Project of the Year” category for our work with Commerzbank at the 2022 Computing Technology Product Awards. It’s been a rewarding relationship, and you can learn more about how the leading German bank is enabling truly customer-centric services with Amplify in our new video below:
Axway was also thrilled to be named a leader in G2’s Fall Reports, which are based on peer product reviews, for our three main product lines: Amplify API Management platform, Managed File Transfer, and B2B Integration platform.
Driving open banking in North America — and around the world
This spring, Axway Open Banking was first to market with an authorization server that supports the latest FDX API 5.0, offering financial-grade consumer data security.
Eyal Sivan, Axway Head of Open Banking, demoed the industry first at FinovateSpring 2022.
“The FDX 5.0 API from the Financial Data Exchange is quickly establishing itself as the de facto North American open banking standard,” explains Sivan. “Through our support of FDX, Axway is helping drive the establishment of common, open, shared standards for the secure exchange of financial data, leading the charge to bring open banking to North America.“
There will be plenty more to come on this front, after the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced the coming of a new U.S. open banking rule.
Transforming digital finance
With the June launch of Axway Financial Accounting Hub, we were proud to offer a solution that addresses the challenges of operational excellence, agility, and trust at the heart of the expectations of evolving finance departments.
“Analysts and major consulting firms agree that today’s finance information systems need to embrace new capabilities and include a Financial Accounting Hub, not just an accounting rule engine,” says Lionel Linossier, General Manager of Digital Finance at Axway. “Alongside the business lines, finance departments want to provide real-time information from the vast amount of data at its disposal to improve management and strategic decision making.
“We designed (AFAH) to be the meeting point between finance and business, based notably on our expertise in APIs. With its richness, flexibility, and scalability, AFAH marks a major evolution and a complete response to the expectations of finance departments.”
Keeping the industry pulse
Axway’s leaders and experts shared wisdom and insights on the Axway blog — which got a new and improved look this summer — and in tech media throughout the year.

Sharing our journey with partners and customers
As Chief Marketing Officer Paul French puts it, customer experience is baked into our DNA at Axway, and this year has been another rewarding time to exchange and build new solutions together.
“Even back when we were a tiny nugget inside a major systems integrator 22 years ago, we understood that our reason for being was to create something that solved a specific customer problem. We’ve stayed true to that, because as markets and expectations evolve, it’s essential to stay sharply attuned to and evolve to offer what our customers need.”
French expands on how customer advisory boards help us gain a deeper understanding of our customers and their needs, and you can watch a video that shows more below.
From Paris to San Francisco, Johannesburg to São Paulo, or Santiago to Casablanca, it was a pleasure to connect with partners, customers, and fellow technologists in person again at events around the world in 2022.
Thank you for reading, and thanks for being a part of our journey. Happy Holidays from all of us here at Axway, and here’s to another year of innovation and brilliant digital experiences together.
