Every month, in our Meet the Griffin Series, Axway presents an outstanding employee we feel embodies Axway’s culture and is a great example of commitment, achievement, journey, motivation, and work ethic.
Last month, we showcased Arjun Warrier, a Senior Technical Consultant. This month, we fly to Sydney, Australia to meet Tina Hsu, a Senior Corporate Counsel.
The job
For the last 3.5 years, Tina Hsu has been the Senior Corporate Counsel in the Asia-Pacific region. With vast responsibilities, Tina is the first legal professional located in this Axway region to support the company’s activities.
Tina sees her job as a guardian for Axway. Tina ensures all contracts contain the necessary terms and conditions that balance with the need to protect Axway’s interests while respecting customers’ interests.
Most of Tina’s time is working with Sales and PSO to support them in achieving their goals.
Tina’s day involves:
- Reviewing numerous contracts.
- Drafting and amending clauses to protect Axway.
- Liaising internally to align Axway’s position.
- Working with Sales Ops and BUCs to ensure all internal processes are adhered to.
- Communicating with opposing parties to provide feedback.
Tina also provides legal advice and reviews contracts for the Marketing, Finance, HR, and Maintenance teams when needed. She also keeps herself up to date with local regulatory changes.
Tina’s approach to the job
Tina is an integral member of the APAC team. She delivers timely business advice to maximize positive impact with all stakeholders while ensuring Axway’s interests are protected.
She also tailors her communications by translating legalese into plain English to avoid miscommunication. She listens carefully to what the needs of the client are and works to find solutions both parties can agree on.
Tina keeps abreast of the progress of deal negotiations and is mindful of the timing when communicating with customers.
Inspiration
Tina sees herself as being a “square peg in a round hole” and thrives in ambiguous situations.
Tina finds great satisfaction and inspiration in problem-solving under imperfect circumstances.
Tina is always in the driver’s seat to contribute to the outcome of contract negotiations to meet tight deadlines. No two deals are alike. Tina enjoys going through each negotiation journey and learning something new.
The best part of the job
Tina enjoys having a bird’s-eye view of how her region is doing through the sales process from beginning to end. She also enjoys being part of a global organization that gives access to working with people from different cultures.
Elements Tina brings to the job
Tina always brings a can-do attitude, incessant curiosity, and the ability to be creative to do her job. It’s also important to laugh to wind down from a tough day of negotiations.
The best part of working at Axway
Tina enjoys autonomy in her position. She is fully supported by the legal team in different time zones. Also, the flexibility of working remotely provides Tina with a better work-life balance. She can fit in some of her parental responsibilities while working across Asia-Pacific time zones.
Job advice
Tina offers three pieces of advice for those beginning their law journey:
- Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, no task is too small or menial.
- Find a great mentor and learn from him/her like a sponge.
- Being a lawyer isn’t for everyone if you prefer your world to be black or white, instead of 50 shades of gray!

Downtime
Tina enjoys spending time with her husband, Nick, her two little girls, Lexi and Evie, and their dog Sesame. As an ex-competitive 1 dragon-boater, a team sport where 20 paddlers paddle a wooden boat, she tries to do something active every day to stay fit.
