Azqore runs core banking for more than 20 banks. The Swiss subsidiary of Indosuez Wealth Management, part of the Crédit Agricole Group, employs 750 people, with over 200 billion CHF in assets under management on its core system.
Underneath it sat a file transfer platform that Azqore had built and maintained internally for almost 40 years.
A 40-year-old platform became a strategic question
Azqore faced increasing limitations with the platform, which was becoming harder to sustain. The technology used to develop it decades ago had become obsolete, and the power users trained on it over the years were approaching retirement or had already retired, putting institutional knowledge and future skills at risk.
Rising operational complexity and fast change in banking meant that Azqore needed a modern, reliable, and fully supported platform to ensure business continuity and compliance.
Strategically, it made more sense for Azqore to focus on its core banking systems than to keep investing in a non-core file transfer solution. Axway MFT was already the standard file transfer solution across all Crédit Agricole entities, and Azqore was already a longtime customer. They decided to migrate their legacy platform to Axway MFT to enable secure and reliable exchanges aligned with the bank’s needs.
Step-by-step migration process without delays
The focus was to migrate the existing flows and deal with improvements later. That philosophy meant migrating the flows as-is and using this logic to allow one-to-one testing and comparison, with the help of an industrial migration tool. All while documenting future improvements along the way and then correcting the migration tool, rather than the target, so one fix covers every future case. The migration ran in stages across the 16-month window.
The scope was large. Azqore migrated more than 34,000 flows across more than 1,200 partners in 16 months, including around 100 custom scripts that had to be integrated into new file transfer patterns. Axway teams supported the work from architecture design to go-live. The team planned carefully and tracked the flows to be migrated, which accelerated progress and avoided delays.
What Azqore can build on now
As the migration came to a close, the next step is to improve.
All critical banking transactions now run on Axway MFT. New protocols will extend what Azqore can offer for new integrations, and encryption capabilities have increased security. Azqore now has access to a unified, scalable, and compliant foundation for all file exchanges, with access to the roadmap at the Group level.
This change brought internal reorganization as well. Where Swiss local teams once maintained the system alone, an international team of experts now supports it, improving resilience and knowledge sharing. Adopting a solution recognized across the European IT landscape made skills easier to develop and expertise easier to find in the market, where certification validates it. Onboarding and enablement have become faster as well.
Azqore has also become an active member of the Axway community, participating in and hosting community events at its Lausanne office. Next comes the improvement backlog: stronger business and technical monitoring on Axway SecureTransport, controlled promotion between non-prod and prod environments to limit errors, and flow creation tools that give business teams more ownership of flow management.
Take the next step
If your organization runs file transfers on a platform it built and maintains itself, the part worth studying is Azqore’s sequence: migrate as is, test one-to-one, correct the tool, unlock operational efficiency.
