How DevOps and microservices help companies innovate faster

Airbnb, Netflix, Google… What do they all have in common? In the next installment of the continuing video series on APIs and microservices, DevOps and microservices architecture are discussed. Furthermore, we show how DevOps and microservices allow companies to innovate to their full extent for digital transformation while learning about a DevOps definition.

DevOps definition

What exactly is the DevOps definition? According to Wikipedia, “DevOps (a clipped compound of “development” and “operations”) is a set of software development practices that combines software development (Dev) with information technology operations (Ops) to shorten the systems development lifecycle while delivering features, fixes and updates frequently in close alignment with business objectives.”

Thanks to this seamless practice, DevOps allows teams of different areas to work effortlessly in tandem while providing smooth integration. This concept is known as CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, see InfoWorld’s definition of CI/CD here).

At the end of the day, CI/CD is a software release tactic. This helps the DevOps teams create and examine their code in shorter variation cycles. What exactly does that accomplish? It helps to contribute to a more complex degree of automation. Thanks in part to CI/CD, this allows everything to move in a rapid manner. The process lets companies head in the right digital transformation direction. Furthermore, microservices provide the key elements to let companies innovate more quickly.

DevOps revolution

According to the video, the “DevOps revolution,” as you might call it, is an amazing movement that has completely “changed software building and infrastructure.” The real value lies in that DevOps enables the integration of developers from different teams to continually deploy at the speed of light. The CI/CD channel furthers the speed at which “enterprises want to move today and microservices are built explicitly for it.” This capability allows the full-on capacity for DevOps and microservices to modernize at a higher speed. With this technology, “companies such as Airbnb, Google and Netflix” are able to disrupt industries. This paves the way for digital transformation.
