Enterprise API Strategy Amplify Platform Newsroom

An open API strategy gives distributed enterprises the freedom to innovate with APIs

I am immensely pleased to announce that Axway has been recognized again as a Leader in the 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for API Management¹ for the 9th time!

Axway has also been recently recognized as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: API Management Software, Q3 2024², and we feel this is a testament to our vision and execution of an API management model that serves enterprise needs in terms of governance, security, productization, and monetization.

We firmly believe that enterprises today need freedom and flexibility to be able to innovate with APIs – breaking down silos and freeing up their teams to work with the tools they need while maintaining tight control of their valuable assets.

Federated (or distributed) API management as a response to API sprawl

Of special note: in Gartner companion research, “Critical Capabilities for API Management,” Axway received the highest score (3.7 out of 5.0) for the Distributed API Management Use Case for the second consecutive year.

What is distributed API management? It is the practice of overseeing and controlling APIs via a common control plane across multiple environments, such as cloud, on-premises, and edge locations. It ensures consistent performance, security, and governance across today’s increasingly distributed systems.

Also referred to as federated API management (or universal APIM), it is a critical capability for API-powered businesses because it enables organizations to manage APIs efficiently at scale while adapting to diverse infrastructure needs.

API sprawl – the unchecked growth of APIs in an organization – is a real concern for enterprises today. Almost all of the enterprise decision-makers (98%) surveyed in our new enterprise API maturity report anticipate the number of APIs used by their organization to increase over the next 12 months.

Yet, only 1/3 of APIs are being managed by a centralized operations team, with the rest left to individual internal teams or managed by external parties.

Federated (distributed) API management, which Axway has pioneered, is a critical capability for combating API sprawl.

Freeing up enterprises to innovate with APIs

As I mentioned earlier this summer, our ability to federate and manage APIs across any environment is truly unique, because it’s about breaking down the silos that hinder your agility.

It’s why Amplify Platform allows teams that are distributed across departments and regions to work with the tools that make sense to them, all while giving organizations the centralized visibility and control to secure their most valuable assets.

The urgency of tracking down and remediating lost APIs is increasingly apparent, with ever more security breach reports and growing API sprawl. 87% of respondents in our Enterprise API Maturity Report agree that blind spots such as ‘zombie’ and ‘shadow’ APIs represent key security threats.

Amplify offers a hybrid, multi-cloud approach to federated API management, with automated discovery of unmanaged and lost APIs. A single registry allows businesses to leverage all the new API styles – including events.

“Treating APIs as products — not just technical interfaces – frees up enterprises to innovate with APIs,” says Mourad Jaakou, Amplify Platform General Manager at Axway.

Amplify Enterprise Marketplace’s federated portal makes API products easy to access and adopt, increasing the ROI of an organization’s API program with an outside-in approach to API-based innovation.

Following our North Star of helping customers “Open Everything” — i.e., unlocking the full value of their data and APIs so they can open new markets, experiences, and possibilities – Axway goes beyond the technology to business enablement.

We’ll help you adopt the tools needed for a product-focused API strategy, but we also stand ready to accompany you on this journey, helping leaders make data-driven decisions to draw the greatest value from your digital assets.
