Google’s Cloud Healthcare API is now available in beta

Last week, Google announced that its Cloud Healthcare API is now available in beta. The API acts as a bridge between on-site healthcare systems and applications that are hosted on Google Cloud. This API is HIPAA compliant, ecosystem-ready and developer-friendly.

The aim of the team at Google is to give hospitals and other healthcare facilities more analytical power with the help of Cloud Healthcare API.

How Open APIs Help Payors, Payees Get Down To Business

Open Banking, now more than a year old after debuting in the U.K., aims to open competition within financial services, bringing providers access to consumer data. Of course, Open Banking relies on technology, in part tied to open application programming interface (APIs) platforms, that provides access to third-party developers.

In a podcast with Karen Webster, David Samples, chief technology officer of TransCard, detailed the ways open API platforms are changing payments. At the highest level, Samples said API platforms can allow payors and payees to “refocus back on the business [they] are trying to accomplish.”

A researcher uses broken API to print message on GPS watches

A German security researcher printed the word “PWNED!” on hundreds of GPS watches to prove a point about a broken API. Christopher Bleckmann-Dreher discovered a vulnerability in an API used by Austrian GPS watch manufacturer Vidimensio. The firm’s watches are used by a wide range of the population from the elderly down to children, and it affected over 20 models.
