The challenges of automation in the insurance industry at a time of digital transformation
In the insurance sector, processing chains are at the heart of operational performance.
Abeille Assurances relies on critical processes such as:
- Underwriting: risk analysis, scoring, contract generation
- Claims management: receipt of declarations, verification of documents, calculation of indemnities
- Customer relations: mailings, notifications, contract updates
- Accounting and financial closing: consolidation of accounting entries, regulatory reporting
- Compliance and internal control: auditing, traceability, archiving
They ensure the fluidity, reliability, and consistency of day-to-day operations, while guaranteeing compliance and responsiveness to market developments.
To guarantee the company’s operational efficiency and quality of service to policyholders, these processing chains must orchestrate the end-to-end use of business application services, whatever form these may take (legacy, cloud, SaaS, container), and automate the company’s operations.
Abeille Assurances’ constraints
Before implementing Axway Automator, Abeille Assurances was using several heterogeneous scheduling solutions, each adapted to a specific technical environment: z/OS, OS400, Windows, AIX, Linux. Today, with the emergence of the cloud, SaaS-based business applications, and new container deployment methods, processing orchestration has become even more complex.
This fragmentation led to :
- Incomplete processing chains due to gaps between tools
- A multiplicity of skills, hampering communication between teams
- Low process scalability
- High costs for licenses, maintenance and development of interfacing scripts
“We had a patchwork of tools that didn’t communicate with each other. This complicated supervision slowed implementation and increased the risk of errors.” – Jean-Luc Vivance, Production Manager, Abeille Assurances
The solution: Axway Automator & Axway Sentinel
In less than a year, Abeille Assurances migrated all its processing chains to Axway Automator:
- 500 processing chains and 8000 processes consolidated in a single environment
- Centralized view of all distributed processes
- Native support for z/OS, OS400, Windows, AIX, and Linux environments, as well as modern architectures such as cloud, SaaS and containers
Customer story – Abeille Assurances & Automator
“Thanks to Axway Automator, Abeille Assurances now orchestrates the automation of its entire IT production and the execution of its end-to-end business processes, all with a single technology,” says Jean-Luc Vivance, Production Manager, Abeille Assurances.
“Automator’s availability on all our production environments – IBM z/OS, IBM i, AIX, HP/UX, Linux – gives us real integration flexibility. All our applications, whatever their platform, communicate and link up seamlessly. Axway Automator gives us operational efficiency, reliability, and day-to-day simplicity
“Axway Automator’s native support for z/OS was a non-negotiable criterion. Our application assets on this platform are strategic, and we couldn’t consider a solution that didn’t fully integrate them. Automator enabled us to move from a fragmented vision to unified supervision. It’s a real lever for agility and reliability.” – Jean-Luc Vivance, Production Manager, Abeille Assurances
Abeille Assurances also uses Axway Sentinel as a complement to Automator. Sentinel automatically collects all operational and malfunction information from all production environments, and makes it available to an observability platform. This enables proactive monitoring, enhanced reactivity, and better governance of operations.
