Around the world: API Workshops for OAuth, Mobile, REST

Each API Workshop has been eventful in its own way. For example, I recall the spirited debate on SOA and API Management, led by Kevin Kohut from Accenture and Randy Heffner from Forrester, at our API Workshop back in Phoenix.

Highlights of API Workshops of 2015

• Open Bank Project covering their vision for APIs for banking at the Axway API Workshop in Utrecht in April (slides online here).
• C-Consult presenting the BMW case study for APIs with the Connected Car, at the Axway API Workshop in Detroit in June 2015
• At our API Workshop in July 2015 in Sydney, when we had four great presentations from Ian Gibson, CIO at SuperChoice, talking about Australian Superfunds, Richard King, Head of IT Risk & Security at Telstra Global on “Enabling a Digital & Cloud Future for Telstra Global”, Chris Solomon, Integration Architect at Middleware NZ, presenting on next-generation identity with APIs, as well as a New Zealand Govt case study.
• At the API Workshop in Wellington in March 2015, Ben Kepes of Forbes presented all about how APIs can unlock your corporate future, with the New Zealand Customs Service also talking about their APIs.
• In Auckland, my colleague Axel covered OAuth connections to Microsoft OneDrive, plus other great API-related topics.
• In the API Workshop in Brisbane, Chris Ong from Redcore presented two brilliant case studies: One about how a university uses our API Gateway technology to manage access, and a banking case study. This was also a great opportunity to meet Graham Williamson of Kuppinger Cole on his home turf.
• At the Melbourne API Workshop, speakers included Peter Jarman from Infosys who spoke about big data, the cloud, and analytics, all API-enabled, plus Leigh Mahoney of ANZ Bank presented about his bank’s APIs.
• In Canberra, Redcore covered government case studies, befitting the Australian Capital Territory location.
• In Perth, there was a particular interest in OAuth 2.0 and how identity applies to APIs.
• At the API Workshop in Sao Paolo Brazil last May, where Mauricio Munoz presented a great API Portal case study.
• We ran API Workshops in Berlin and Munich. Rafael Kobylinski, founder, and CEO of incapptic, spoke about “Enterprise Apps – Dream or Nightmare” – here is Rafael in action
• London in May, it was a case of “London Calling REST APIs” where at the API Workshop we had two great speakers: Tim Haysom from the GSMA spoke about the network (mobile) APIs and the capabilities now being exposed by mobile operators to developers to enhance applications and services. In addition, Steve Craggs from Lustratus Research spoke about the journey from SOA to Web APIs.
• The API Workshop in San Francisco coincided with the Scottish Independence vote, so we used an example Scottish Independence Voting API with a mobile app to show API management in action. In addition, Mehdi Medjaoui of OAuth.io and APIDays presented all about OAuth
• In Atlanta and Dallas, Kevin Kohut from Accenture described what it means to be “API First,” and what it means to treat APIs like a product.
• In Stockholm, attendees were able to walk through some great API management scenarios
• At the API Workshop in Boston last month, Kamron Abtahi, DaaS (Data as a Service) Engineer for the very successful D&B Direct API, talked about how their DaaS API, D&B Direct 2.0, “liberates their data.”
• At API Days Paris in December 2014, where we used a mobile app to “vote” for where the next API Days would be and saw how the APIs called from that app are managed using API Keys
